The incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP) during
prangancy has been increasing in recent years. The diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of the disease
is important because AP during pregnancy causes morbidity and mortality for the
mother and fetus. The most common causes of AP
during pregnancy are gallstones, alcohol use and hypertriglyceridemia. The
severity of AP is important in follow-up and treatment. Various classifications
are used to determine the prognosis of AP. Treatment of the pregnant AP patient
should be planned according to severity of AP, etiology, gestational
week, and the presence of local or systemic complications. Accordingly,
these patients should be followed with a multidisciplinary approach.
