Gastrointestinal system complaints are
common during pregnancy. In the gastrointestinal tract during pregnancy,
absorption may change with mucosal secretions and motility may be affected. The
main reason for the changes is; It is thought to be due to increased
progesterone concentration and changes in other pregnancy hormones during
pregnancy. However, as a result of the pressure of the growing uterus on the
lumen, colon transit time may slow down. Having information about the hormonal
and mechanical changes that occur during pregnancy is important in interpreting
gastrointestinal complaints. In this article, we will provide literature-based information
about changes in the lower gastrointestinal system that may occur during
pregnancy and their management.
