The standard treatment for
gallbladder diseases is laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but a specialist surgeon must be knowledgeable
about all cholecystectomy techniques and indications. It should not be forgotten
that the open technique can be used in a planned manner in the appropriate
patient group, and it should be known that turning to the open technique will
always be an option in cases where the structures cannot be fully revealed due
to insufficient exploration, gallbladder cancer, or anatomical variations. By
preferring an open technique in some critically ill patient groups, decreased
cardiac return and high ventilation pressures that can be triggered by
pneumoperitoneum are avoided, thus reducing surgical stress.
