Urinary System
Anahtar Kelimeler
In this section, information about the urinary system and its organs is provided. The urinary system consists of organs such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, which are responsible for the production and excretion of urine. The kidneys perform the filtration of blood, allowing the formation of urine and the removal of waste materials from the body. They also help regulate water balance and maintain blood pressure. The kidneys adjust the levels of electrolytes and glucose, thus regulating water balance. They balance the pH of the blood by excreting acid or alkaline substances and produce the hormone renin to increase water retention in case of low blood flow. Additionally, the kidneys contribute to the production of red blood cells by producing the hormone erythropoietin. The kidneys are located in the upper part of the posterior abdominal wall and are covered by the peritoneum. The anterior surface of both kidneys is convex and adjacent to different organs. The posterior surface is called retroperitoneal as it lacks peritoneum. The kidneys have a bean-like shape, a brownish color, and a slightly firm texture. One of the important functions of the kidneys is to produce and excrete urine.(AI)
