With the spread of endoscopic procedures all over the
world, the rates of detecting lesions with an indication for endoscopic
resection (ER) have increased, especially in the geriatric population. These
lesions can be detected in the entire gastrointestinal system, and depending on
the region where they are detected, their indications, classifications and
whether the method to be chosen for treatment is endoscopic mucosal resection
(EMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The effectiveness and reliability
of EMR and ESD techniques, which are used safely and in increasing numbers all
over the world in early esophageal, stomach and colorectal neoplasia, have been
proven in current studies. In addition, EMR or ESD applications with expanded
indications have been shown to have satisfactory results in the short and long
term in geriatric patients who are not suitable for surgery due to their
comorbidities.
