With increasing life expectancy, the number of
individuals with chronic diseases and hospitalizations are increasing. In the
geriatric age group, the need for intensive care is higher than the normal
population due to acute exacerbations of chronic health problems, multiple drug
use and problems involving multiple organ systems. We struggle to reduce
mortality and morbidity with increased fragility, delirium, sarcopenia, tissue
injury secondary to pressure, changes in drug metabolism and post-intensive
care syndrome, which we encounter more frequently in the geriatric age group
with intensive care follow-up.
