The increasing elderly population worldwide has led to a rise
in the prevalence of both malignant and benign pathologies within this
community. The number and scope of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic
procedures have also expanded in these elderly patients. Endoscopic
ultrasonography (EUS) plays a significant role in the identification and
determination of treatment modalities for various conditions, particularly
malignancies, in the pancreatobiliary, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary lesions.
However, there is a scarcity of literature pertaining to EUS in geriatric
patients. When deciding on endoscopic procedures in this population, the
potential benefits and risks should be carefully considered, with a paramount
focus on patient safety.
