The frequency of liver and biliary tract diseases
also increases in older patients. Especially the postoperative recovery period
is an important problem in this group of patients with multiple comorbidities.
For this reason, the least invasive method is preferred among the treatment
options. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) can be used
safely in the treatment of biliary strictures caused by malignancies. With this
treatment method, the recovery rate of patients in the postoperative period
increased and patients were mobilized more quickly. Complications such as
bleeding, perforation and pancreatitis that may develop after ERCP are not more
common in older patients than in the normal patient population. With developing
technology and increased procedure experience, a significant decrease in these
complication rates is observed.
