Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic
mucosal resection (EMR) are the two main categories of endoscopic resection
(ER) methods. Early esophageal, gastric, and colorectal cancers are the primary
indications for ER; the lesion is assessed based on several categories, and an
ER decision is taken in accordance with the findings. Similar indications apply
for ER during pregnancy, and the week of pregnancy is crucial in determining
the course of treatment. Proper diagnosis and treatment of early cancers during
pregnancy is crucial, as it is for all patients; but, in this instance, there
may be a decline in the chances of fetal survival. The prevailing view is that
after 28 weeks of pregnancy, a plan for curative treatment should be made.
However, if the gestational age is less than 28 weeks, the patient should be
consulted while deciding on a course of treatment and the fetus’s developmental
condition should be assessed.
