The risk of gallstone formation during pregnancy is
higher than in the normal population due to hormonal reasons. Gallstones are
seen in 12% of pregnant women. Although most pregnant women with gallstones are
asymptomatic, if there is an absolute indication for Endoscopic retrograde
cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), it is recommended to perform ERCP, preferably
in the 2nd trimester. In this text the management of macroscopic benign
cholestasis detected during pregnancy with ERCP is described.
