The most common liver disease in pregnancy is
intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICH).It is diagnosed by elevated liver
enzymes and increased bile acid levels with pruritus.ICH is usually seen in the
3rd trimester of pregnancy, but can sometimes be seen in the 2nd
trimester. After delivery, all symptoms usually disappear.Although there are
some theories for the pathogenesis, it is still not fully known. Although
relatively harmless for the expectant mother, GIC poses a significant risk for
the baby. Preterm delivery, meconium excretion into the amniotic fluid, ARDS,
fetal distress and sudden intrauterine fetal death are risks that can be seen
in the child with this disease.ursodeoxycholic acid is still the most effective
and safe agent in treatment.
