Mammals
are frequently used in modeling infectious diseases because their structures
and functions are similar to humans. Most frequently used animals are rats,
mice, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits Because, their lifespan is shorter than
that in human, manipulation is easy and production is practical. Sepsis models,
bacteremia-fungemia models, pneumonia models as systemic infection models,
keratitis models, wound models, catheter infection models, meningitis models,
osteomyelitis models and vaginitis models as localazed infection models as
infecton models will be discussed in this section. Additionally, mini models
that can replace vertebrate animals will be presented.
