Dyspepsia is defined as digestion difficulties. Multiple factors contribute to the etiology of dyspepsia. Consequently, dyspepsia is a symptom complex as opposed to a disease. The prevalence of dyspepsia in the community ranges between 20 and 25%. It is generally accepted that dyspepsia symptoms originate in the stomach and duodenum and are perceived in the epigastric region. It was observed that 75% of dyspepsia patients did not have an organic disease to explain their symptoms.
