Nonformal education helps individuals acquire knowledge or skills on a specific topic. One of the out-of-school learning environments, science fairs, provides students with the opportunity to implement their creative ideas, transform theoretical knowledge into practice, design products that facilitate life, exhibit these products, and enhance their curiosity and exploration senses. This study aims to determine the attitudes and perceptions of middle school students toward science lessons and science fairs, which is one of the out-of-school learning environments where meaningful and lasting learning occurs through hands-on experience, research, and inquiry. The results of the study revealed that students had positive attitudes and perceptions towards science lessons, scientific experiments, and science fairs. They attempted to explain science lessons more with terms such as experiments, science, and laboratory. The views related to the textbook showed a gradual decline in curiosity and creativity as the class level increased. No significant differences were found in students' attitudes toward science lessons and science fairs based on gender and mother's education level; however, significant differences were observed based on father’s education level, participation in science fairs, involvement in science fair activities, and use of the science textbook, favoring students in the 5th grade.
