Many undesirable side effects develop during the diagnosis and
treatment period of cancer patients, and these symptoms have a negative impact
on the patients’ quality of life. Patients diagnosed with cancer experience
various problems such as nausea, pain, vomiting, anxiety, depression, and sleep
disorders, depending on the disease and its treatment. Patients can explore
complementary treatment methods, such as aromatherapy, to reduce or eliminate
these symptoms and improve their overall well-being and quality of life.
Aromatherapy is one of the complementary and alternative treatments that aim to
help cancer patients cope with the problems they experience due to the disease
or treatment. Aromatherapy treatment is considered safe because it is
cost-effective, non-invasive, and has fewer side effects compared to other
known pharmacological treatments Aromatherapy eliminates complications of
cancer patients such as sleep disorders, nausea, vomiting, pain, anxiety and
depression. It has been shown in the literature that aromatherapy is one of the
most frequently used methods to relieve the symptoms experienced by cancer
patients. On the other hand, essential oils, which are the main component of
aromatherapy, can cause different toxic effects if not used in the correct dose
and frequency.
