Coenzyme Q is an endogenously produced compaund which
is present in most organs foremost pancreas, liver and heart. It plays a role
in oxidative and aerobic metabolism and contains antioxidant features that
helps prevent oxidative stress. Coenzyme Q has been shown to have
anti-neoplastic features via muliple pathways. It has been shown in many
studies to have beneficial effects on many cancer types such as breast, malign
melanoma and HCC; but there are other types like prostate cancer where no
beneficial effect has been shown. Most common side effects op Coenzyme Q are
gastrointestinal compliants but it has a generally well tolerated safety
profile. To this day there are promising studies regarding to Coenzyme Q’s
antineoplastic features but more studies are required to determine its effects
on cancer.
