Tea (Camellia Sinensis) is one of the most frequently used
beverage raw materials around the world, and many different types can be
created through various processes. Among these types, especially green tea, has
many medicinal effects. It has cardiovascular, antiallergic, antidiabetic and
antineoplastic effects thanks to the antioxidant metabolites it contains. Its
antineoplastic effects have been demonstrated in many types of cancer such as
prostate, gastrointestinal cancers, lung and head and neck cancers, and its
effects on many steps of carcinogenesis have been demonstrated. Although its
positive effects on health come to the fore, the fact that it has metabolites
that inhibit many cytochrome P450 enzymes causes various drug interactions and
has positive/negative effects on the bioavailability of many drugs. It should
not be forgotten that uncontrolled use of green tea, whose side effect profile
often affects the gastrointestinal system, may also have negative effects on
health.
