The frequency of pancreatic cysts generally increases with
age.Cystic lesions seen in the pancreas can be classified as
pseudocysts,neoplastic(serous cystic tumors(SCT),MCN,IPMN,solid pseudopapillary
neoplasms(SPN)) and non-neoplastic cysts.Surgical resection is the gold
standard treatment for neoplastic lesions with a high risk of
malignancy.Factors related to the development of malignancy include cyst size
>3cm,presence of a solid component in the cyst and enlargement of the main
pancreatic duct.In terms of surgical
techniques,cystogastrostomy,cystojejunostomy and cystoduodenostomy are
performed for pseudocysts, while pancreaticoduodunectomy is more common for
IPMN.In SPN and MCN, distal pancreatectomy is performed due to their
localization.Central pancreatectomy and enucleation are also surgical
procedures.
