Hepatorenal syndrome is the clinical result of a decrease in
renal perfusion that develops due to reasons such as acute liver failure and
cirrhosis. Especially the decrease in renal functions and reserves with age
makes patients in the geriatric age group more susceptible to the development
of hepatorenal syndrome. There is no specific biomarker for the diagnosis of
hepatorenal syndrome and it is made clinically after excluding other causes
that may cause renal damage. In the geriatric population, treatment should be
more careful considering comorbidities.
