Chronic pancreatitis is a disease of the pancreas
characterized by chronic progressive inflammation and fibrosis of the pancreas
as a result of exposure to various risk factors, causing irreversible damage to
the pancreas, loss of exocrine and endocrine function. In the early stages of
chronic pancreatitis, pain is episodic, while with the progression of fibrosis,
more chronic or persistent pain, exocrine (steatorrhea) and endocrine
(diabetes) pancreatic insufficiency, dysplasia and malignancy may develop. Ultrasonography
is one of the imaging methods that can be used in pregnant women with chronic
pancreatitis. In suspicious cases, fecal elastasis can be checked and EUS can
be performed. Patients with chronic pancreatitis are advised to consume low-fat
and small meals, avoid dehydration.
