Diseases that cause malignant biliary cholestasis during
pregnancy are extremely rare. Because of the similar symptoms of pregnancy and
the limitation of radiological examinations, the diagnostic process is
prolonged and the diagnosis is often made at a late stage. ERCP is performed
for biliary decompression in the presence of cholangitis, to relieve severe
cholestasis symptoms, before neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy, or to save
time if the surgical process will be prolonged. When performing ERCP during
pregnancy, a multidisciplinary evaluation should be made, precautions should be
taken for the mother and baby, and the procedure should be performed by an
experienced endoscopist.
