Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an
important cause of chronic liver disease and liver transplantation worldwide.
For this reason, the incidence of NAFLD is increasing in women of childbearing
age. The risk of both maternal and perinatal complications is quite high in
pregnant women with NAFLD. The acute
fatty liver of pregnancy is an obstructive emergency condition that usually
occurs in the 3rd trimester, causes high fetal and maternal mortality, and can
lead to acute liver failure. Early diagnosis of acute fatty liver during
pregnancy and prompt delivery are very important for the well-being of the
mother and the fetus.
