Lower extremity peripheral arterial
disease (PAD) affects over 250 million adults and is associated with increased
risk of adverse vascular outcomes. Ischemia occurs when the blood flow to the
tissue is reduced or suddenly interrupted and restoring blood flow to the
tissue is named reperfusion. This process causes tissues to produce and release
Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that are toxic to organism. This ROS mechanism
carries great importance in PAD patients. PAD is an often overlooked topic and
to research it in depth requires broad knowledge in animal model studies.
