Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a transient dysfunction of the
left ventricle characterized by the appearance of apical ballooning triggered by various
stressors. TTS has become increasingly recognized with advances in clinical practice. Although
catecholamine discharge plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Takotsubo syndrome, its
pathophysiology is still unclear. In this chapter, an overview of takotsubo syndrome will be presented.
