This chapter tackles with the so far equivocal position of popular fiction in academia. First, it is offered the controversial definitional framework on popular fiction and literary tradition in an attempt to show the difficulty in demarcating boundaries between the two. Then, it discusses how academia has responded to popular fictions drawing attention to the rising inclination and interest among the new generation scholars in popular genres. Finally, with a focus on popular genres, it evaluates the ways how popular fiction and literary tradition are processed and what this means for academic studies.
